Design Progresion

#1 Model

My First model, I did by integrating my narrative and emotions with inspirations I had. I felt that It was a decent attempt and it did satisfy the given rubric. However, I myself was not fully satisfied with the way it looked. It didn't felt like it was fully my design Idea. Thus I took it upon myself to redesign my structure with more originality in mind.

#2 Model

I was very ambitious with my second attempt. I thought of making a 3D maze with stairs interlocking with different paths with a quite area in the middle. However, it the middle of it I realized that my design would far exceed the given 30m cube limit, closing in at almost 100m cube. Trying to reduce it's size wasn't possible as well to continue with the theme of the design. Hence, I had to scrap the concept and come up with a version that wouldn't be too big in size.

 3# Final Model

For my 3rd and Final design, I took advice from my tutors and focused on the ergonomics of the structure whislt also integrating my design concept from model2. I also maintained the minimal look of my structure with it mostly being wood and hints of concrete and frosted glass. I personally believe that it fits well with my narrative which is "indecisiveness". However, I would admit that it looks blocky or rigid. My rebuttle to that statement is that my structure fully utilized the 30m cube limit whilst being very thought through in terms of ergonomics. Hence I have no regrets with my design in this run. But if I do get to redo my final model, I'd definitely put more effort into its geometry.

Outcome

Personally, I found it to be challenging to satisfy multiple tutors with my own design concepts. However I also felt like it was forcing me to think outside the box with how I think of Architectural designs. It also had me balance my work-life balance with extreme precision as we were also tasked to provide a list of Architectural Drawings which took up a huge up of time to complete this project.

Overall I'm quite satisfied with this project, however I do feel like limiting it to a 30m cube structure is too little when we have to include ergonomics into the conversation.

Overview

At the end of our 1st semester we were tasked to design a 30m cube structure in a 1:20 scale model with the listed materials. We were also tasked to include the required Architecture drawings for our final presentation board.

In this project, we had to prove our design abilities as well as how we integrated ergonomics into our structures. It also tested our persistance in the field as it was the most work we had to do in the entire semester.
